Mindful Walking

Walking is something that we usually don’t pay very much attention to, yet tuning into our pattern of walking can be very helpful for grounding us in the moment. The next time you are walking anywhere allow your attention to move to the soles of your feet and, as best you can, notice that the weight transfers from one foot to another as you move along. After a few paces you then might find yourself able to notice how the weight transfers from the heel to the sole of the foot as the other foot lifts to take over. Once you become familiar with this pattern you may also notice that your breathing synchronises with this movement, an in breath on one step followed by an out breath on the other. By continuing with this awareness for a while you may find yourself more fully present in the moment when moving from one place to another.
